So. Very. Confused.

So I get back to town, catch up on work and life stuff (the Sonoma State talk was a doozy, but more on that later) and find out that while I was gone, tribe.net staff started their own blog using MovableType instead of the tribe.net code.

Given that all the tribe data is (or is about to be) available via RSS, and that tribe staff can go create and join whatever tribes they want, why go install a separate version of MovableType on the tribe servers and post content there?

This is such a confusing move, from my point of view. Why drop their own tech in favor of a different product entirely, especially since the exact same effect could be achieved though a moderated tribe? Could it be that MT has features that tribe.net staff wanted but their own code didn't have? Why not just improve their own code, then?

I can't help but see this as a lack-of-confidence vote in their own codebase. But the CTO is right there, blogging along.
