Essie Mae Washington Williams
According to
Slate, Ms. Williams is Strom Thurmond's daughter (born 1925, to a woman who was not Thurmond's wife). Ms. Williams is also, as it happens, black.
What would it be like to be Essie Williams? I can't even begin to imagine.
